About Dr Proudman

Welcome to my blog, a space where I engage in the pursuit of advocating for gender equality and championing the rights of women. My name is Charlotte Proudman, and I am an award-winning barrister recognized for my unwavering dedication to advancing women's rights both within and beyond the legal arena.

My focus centers on holding perpetrators of male violence against women and girls accountable, a specialization that underlines my commitment to justice and equality. Fearlessly confronting gender bias within the legal system, I have been at the forefront of representing victims of rape, coercive control, and female genital mutilation (FGM). I steadfastly refuse to shy away from confronting the truth, even when speaking it challenges established power structures.

My endeavors have brought about significant legal transformations, furthering the cause of women's rights. A pivotal moment came when I represented a rape survivor in a groundbreaking case that officially acknowledged "gaslighting" as a form of domestic abuse. Collaborating with fellow feminist activists, I played a pivotal role in the criminalization of forced marriage, virginity testing, hymenoplasty, and the raising the minimum age for marriage to 18.

However, my work extends beyond the courtroom. My influence reaches the media sphere through impactful avenues. Featured in The Times and a frequent voice on radio broadcasts, I amplify crucial feminist issues and challenge societal norms. The Counsel Magazine featured me on its cover, exposing abuse within the legal profession. Join me in this transformative journey towards a fairer society.

Central to my mission is challenging the systemic biases entrenched within our institutions, with the legal system being a primary focus. Why are women subjected to imprisonment for seeking an abortion while rape goes under-decriminalized? Why does sexual harassment not warrant criminalization, whereas football hooliganism does? Why does racism constitute a hate crime, yet misogyny does not? My fervent dedication is to eradicate all forms of discrimination against women within society, and I boldly call out instances of sexism wherever they arise.
